How To Choose A Duvet

The higher the quality of down, the better it will be at all the things that down is famous for: superb insulation, incredible lightness, and unmatched breathability. For this reason higher quality duvets can provide a wider comfort range – warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Additionally higher quality down-proof fabrics can further enhance breathability; in fact our covers now have a special finish, making them even more breathable than other cottons. DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE

KNOW YOUR DUCK DOWN FROM YOUR GOOSE DOWN

GOOSE DOWN typically has larger feathers and down clusters than duck down, and therefore boasts higher fill powers. However, a high quality duck down can be better than a low quality goose down. TRADITIONAL DUCK DOWN is usually lower cost than goose down, and can be mixed with goose down to reduce price. This is legal if correctly labelled, but misleading if your product is marketed as “goose down.” EIDERDOWN is a type of extremely rare, super-premium duck down. A regulated small percentage can be hand collected from the nests of wild eider ducks, a protected species, without disturbing the eggs or the birds. In fact there are more Lamborghinis made each year than Eider Down Duvets.

QUALITY DOWN VS. FEATHERS – DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE?

Contrary to popular belief, down and feathers are two completely different things with different purposes. In contrast to a feather, which has fibers extending off a central quill "rib," down is a three-dimensional structure that consists of millions of filaments that grow from a central quill point and is the light, fluffy undercoating that geese and ducks grow to keep warm. It traps air and insulates incredibly well, giving it a natural ability to provide warmth and wick away body moisture. Ever been pricked by a feather in your down pillow or duvet? Now you know.
